I am 52 and very discouraged. I can't find a job going on 4 years. When I found jobs they did not want to keep me. I don't drink. I'm honest. I show up on time. I am college educated. But it never works out.
This makes me very sad. Perhaps it's God's will that I stay at home and raise my child as my wife works? I am blessed.
But a man should work. Please pray for me.

I will pray for you, I know it is hard, my husband has been out of work since 1996 so you are not alone...he is 52 also.

Thank you Mani but it is me.

Is there room in God's heaven to care for my humiliation of not being good enough for this world. Or will I be cast aside like.
Is our Lady concerned enough to give a listening ear to my disillusionment, frustration and pain?
But I live like a king? What do I have to complain about? I guess it's my pride. And pride is a sin.

Did you hear back about your last interview? I will continue to pray for you. I know it's hard to find peace in this situation but try to abandon everything to God and have faith that He will make it better. There is a reason for everything. Maybe you are better able to explore your faith and be nearer to the heart of Jesus by being home. Let Him decide your fate. Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come Thy will be done...

Thank you Jenn. I did not hear back and I don't expect to. He interviewed me a few years ago. When I walked in he had a puzzled look on his face as if to say "what are you doing here." Or that I looked familiar.

I have a life long problem with men in the workplace. They don't like me. I doubt this guy liked me. It's easy to say I can take this time to explore my faith. My ego is wounded. It gets too deep to explain my feelings here. I know I am supposed to believe God is in charge. I know he is. I have to bring my bruised insulted ego to Him. I am too tired to express my wounded feelings now here. Thank you for caring.

Have you tried doing voluntary work? It would help keep you busy and take your mind off your own problems. Carrying a cross for others can be a lot lighter than carrying our own cross. It’s a great blessing for others and ourselves when we are able to do this.

Simon was a reluctant carrier of the cross. He was going into Jerusalem with his two sons – in the opposite direction to Jesus who was heading out of the city. Then he was forced to help Jesus with his cross. From that moment his life was turned around, so to speak.

He was one of the first followers of Christ to understand that shouldering the yoke with Jesus was not the burden he thought it would be.

The yoke was used to harness oxen together to plough fields – a burdened shared, a load lightened.

Helping and sharing the burden of others will always lighten our own burden.

Thanks bluecross. Excellent suggestion. But you know what? I doubt I would do any good. No matter what I try nothing amounts to much; even helping others!
I pray today for God to reveal His will to me. That's something I am kind of afraid of since I want my own way. So what happens after I pray that? I have a day of deep, deep depression.
I don't know why I even bother with anything anymore.

So while you are unemployed and hanging around waiting for a revelation from God, why not decide to go out and do some volunteer work and help someone in need?

Remember the Samaritan had to CROSS THE ROAD to help the man who lay injured. He had to change his direction, just like Simon did when he was turned around to carry Jesus’ cross. He was reluctant because his heart was set on going its his own way.

Just think, when you help share or lift the burden of another in this way, you are in fact carrying the cross for Jesus... Jesus speaks to us about this way in Scripture (Matthew 25 : 31-46) This is God’s will for all of us.

Yes... you are right. And I do try to help people. Just last week I bought a stranger something to eat. And I do raise my son and take care of the house. But you are right. You make perfect sense.
So how do I go about trying to find ways to help others? I was thinking about Catholic Charities. Do you know of any organizations I can look into?

Years ago I tried to volunteer at my local hospital but there was a long waiting list.

I don't recall the entire story of Simon. Is the entire story in Catholic tradition?
