Hello everyone,

On many occassions, I have been praying or singing praises and have been moved to tears. This makes sense to me because of the words I am saying that touches my heart in different ways.

But recently, I have had occassions where I am at Mass and have been on the verge of tears and feeling very moved. I am not sure why exactly and I always push those tears away. The reason this confuses me is I always feel so distracted during Mass. My mind wanders and I am continuously having to bring myself back into the "presence" of the Mass.

Has anyone ever had this happen and why do you think it is happening to me? Should I just let those feelings flow out of me? I don't like a lot of attention and that is why I have been trying not to let those feelings out.

Unsure,

Willywee

I agree, I too believe the tears are a gift of the Holy Spirit.

This has happened to me also a few times. It can be unnerving - as it will happen so suddenly and unexpectedly. But, it is truly a great gift.

I hope you don't mind if I relate a story of something that happened to me during a Pilgrimage to Italy and Medjugorje in 2000.

It was a Jubilee year, so I went on this Pilgrimage with the intention of praying daily for specific relatives/family that had passed on.

When we went to St Peter's Bascilla at the Vatican. We all went one by one through the Holy Doors, first saying our Prayers for the Jubilee indulgence.
The very second I stepped into that door way, I emotionally fell completely apart. Tears began flowing and crying became 'bodily shaking' sobs.

I was stunned. I couldn't understand what was going on. I trailed along at the back of my group and never heard a word that our guide said about anything. I went through a whole packet of tissues that I had in my pocket book.

I later spoke to the Priest with our group and he told me that I had just received a great gift from the Holy Spirit, and that perhaps the Holy Spirit was letting me know that my prayers for that day's individual had released that person from Purgatory. (???)

This same reaction happened to me one other time during this Pilgrimage - when I visited St Michael's Cave in Italy.

I'm in similar situation...before this year, I think I only cried twice my whole life during mass. But earlier this year, I had some fatigue that the doctors could not figure out the cause. I went through depressions and anxiety. Though the feeling of being sick is not pleasant at all, on the other hand, my connection with God and Virgin Mary improved a lot. Many times in the past 4 months, I cried a lot during mass, especially when I received the Communion. As a man, I think people will be very curiuous seeing me cry. but that does not bother me that much. I just let my emtional out because I feel the love of God and Virgin Mary are with me during those moments. That's the most important thing to me.

Now, if you are healthy and well and feel emtional during mass, you are even more blessed than me. I prayed to Jesus and Holy Mother that when, at just a matter of time i strongly believe, They heal me completely, that I will still feel the love and grance during mass or prayers to the point where I can cry.

Please keep me in your prayer so the God through the intercession of Mary will completely heal me so that I could take care of a beautiful family of one 4 cutest daugther and a very beautiful wife God gave me.

May God bless us all.

I also find tears flowing at times during mass, during the singing of particular hymns - such as 'Be Thou my Vision' and 'Faith of Our Fathers' - and when saying certain prayers, and in other spiritual situations. Being a 'stiff upper lipped' British male I hold back hard on the full 'bucketful'! I think the Celtic Irish in me 'emotes', and the Saxon/Norman English part feels 'uncomfortable' about it.

Peace and Love.

I experienced the same thing too. When I sing a particular song, my tears were all over my face. I thought, my emotion is just playing me. Now, I realized that holy spirit is such a powerful source to let me feel better. :)

A few days ago i read a passage from the bible that made me cry loads. I didn't know what was going on... it was like i cried from the bottom of my heart ..the big lump in the throat & everything.
I think it must have been the love of God.
Here it is:
Isaiah 43
Quote:
Israel, the Lord who created you says,
"Do not be afraid-i will save you
i have called you by name-you are mine.
When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt;
the hard trials that come will not hurt you.
For i am the Lord your God,
the holy God of Israel, who saves you.
I will give up Egypt to set you free;
I will give up Ethiopia and Seba
I will give up whole nations to save your life,
because you are precious to me
and because i love you and give you honour
Do not be afraid-i am with you

I think the line; i will give up Egypt to set you free really set me off!!! :D Its just so beautiful.

I've never been to Medjugorje but my Mum and sisters have been. They both reported being in floods of tears over here.

Yes yes! It happens to me too. I get overwhelmed at mass knowing I am in the presence of Jesus and Mary and I begin to pray inwardly to them (usually after receiving the Eucharist) and I being to feel the tears well up. I try to stop them but its not easy. I think it is perfectly fine for this to happen. I only try to stop it because I feel a bit embarrassed, but I think it would be fine if one were to cry in church out of love for our Lord or for our Mother.

I cry at the Mass. Usually after I recieve the Holy Eucharist and the Blood of Christ. Tears just flow. It is a gift. I can see Jesus more clearly, and I feel the pain of what He went through in His Passion. Sometimes I have images in my head of Him dying on the cross, or of His face on the Cross. I weep with Joy and Pain. Usually I am in deep petition with Him asking and loving Him, then bam, tears rolling and dripping down my face. I get embarrased because I need lots of tissue, blow my nose and I think people are staring at me. I have learned it is a gift almost like an intimacy with our Lord, a cleansing of sorts, a help for me even though I secretly am embarrassed. Now I know I am not alone and I am going to let the tears flow....Love the Living Mass.......God is Good. Love HB

Dear HoneyBump,

I like you was moved to tears yesterday after receiving the Eucharist. I was unable to go to Mass yesterday. I knew on Sunday that I would be unable to attend Mass on Monday. I have been able to go everyday. I would then not be able to bring communion to my invalid mother. Iwas a work when the hospital Eicharistic minister walked near the place where I was seeing patients. I could not stop her @ that time. I lamented to myself how sad I felt because I missed the opportunity to call on her. I went back to work with the patients. I finished my work then walked back to my duty section. Low and behold the Eucharistic minister and I encoutered each other. She passed me by. I called her and asked her if she had an extra Host. She did therefore allowed me to receive communion and bring one for my mother. I began to cry bitterly as I received the Jesus. I felt a warmth all over. We hugged each other and I told her that I had been sad because I had missed her earlier. She said to me :Jesus knows what we need".

Love in Christ

I had the experience once of the opposite, I was filled with joy and could not stop smiling, (being a kind of somber person this was completely foreign!) I felt like the ceiling was unlimited and radiating upwards. I was filled with joy! So the Holy Spirit lifted me up! I keep asking my husband don't you feel the joy here? He thought I was nuts. So anyway I guess it works both ways!

I try to hold back my tears when the Passion of Christ is read during Good Friday. It is read in my traditional language "Mi'kmaw". I feel overwhelmed because hearing my language means a great deal. Not too many people in my community speak the language. However, I am praying to get support from Our Creator to help us save our dying language.

This happened to me too, the first and only time I went to Medjugorje. There is much written about the gift of tears.
