curled up here in a corner, in one of these less than comfortable hosptial waiting room chairs (i am thankful for the wi-fi! 
) i am given the news on this feast of the Immaculate Conception that my mother mary's surgery has gone beautifully. Our Lady is so good to us, she always hears our prayers. as my mom was nodding off from the effects of one of the medications, her words to me before drifting off were a reminder to go to Our Mother, 'she is so sweet'. her sentence made me smile, because mom said it if she were talking about a neighbor, or old friend.
and, of course, mom is right. Our Lady has been her lifelong companion, a trusted friend, a confidant. mom would know from a life lived with Mary, that she is all this and more.
